Garrett became very sick in mid-June and was diagnosed with pneumonia. He underwent surgery to drain large pockets of fluid from his lungs and clear the infection from his right lung. Although he hoped he was improving, he remained unable to return to work.

In mid-August, Garrett returned to the ER and was found to have blood clots in his lungs. After emergency surgery was unable to remove all the clots and he continued forming more, he was transferred to Barnes Hospital.

At Barnes, doctors performed surgery to remove clots from his vena cava, lungs, and around his kidneys. When they attempted to remove clots near his heart and lungs, Garrett required about two minutes of CPR. He then spent a week heavily sedated on ECMO and a ventilator. Additional clots formed, and both lungs partially collapsed.

On August 29th, Garrett underwent open-heart surgery to remove the remaining clots, successfully removing the largest portion. After weeks of intensive treatment, he was finally released from Barnes on September 11th to continue his recovery at home.

Garrett has a long road of healing ahead and will be out of work for some time. His wife, Nicole, and their four boys are incredibly grateful to have him home. However, after months without work, multiple hospital stays, and several major surgeries, the family is facing a significant financial burden.

Now is the time for the community to come together to show our love and support for this family and help ease this financial burden.
